I only met Sue once but I know Tom well. He was instrumental in my graduate education at Virginia Tech 30+ years ago. Tom, my thoughts are with you. Bob

Bob Fainter 6 December, 2010

I was fortunate enough to have met Sue through her husband Tom. That day I first met her is still fresh in my mind and will always forever be one of the most treasured moments in my life. I am deeply, deeply sorry. Mr & Mrs Wesselkamper Komol Tata for all the help and love you've shown me. You've always and forever still be in my prayers.

I was thinking about Dr. Sue the other day when my young son asked me if Chaminade ever won the Maui Invitational. As I explained to him the differences in Divisional play, I then took the opportunity to remind him about the "greatest upset in college basketball" that Chaminade spearheaded over then #1 Virginia in 1982 - the precursor to the tournament's birth two years later. I also told him that whether or not Chaminade won games in the tournament (they did win several), you would never know it by the incredible support of their school and fans, led by their #1 fan for many years - Dr. Sue. She was in the stands for every game, cheering on her guys as if they were about to win the national championship. I was proud to have become her friend during my tenure with the tournament. She inspired me and the rest of our tournament team in so many ways, most of them subtle, but always meaningful. I learned from Dr. Sue that grace and dignity are essential qualities of effective leadership, something I try to emulate and teach my two sons. Thank you, Dr. Sue, for the many life lessons you shared without ever realizing the impact you were making on those around you. You will be forever in our hearts, minds and prayers.

One of my memories of Sue was having my photo taken with her in her office and she was holding one of my East Meets West poetry books published by Watermark Press/Publish Today! Frankie Kam '64

I just learned that President Wesselkamper had passed. She was truly a special person doing God's work on earth through education leadership. My last contact with her was at a Chaminade fundraiser in 2004. She was always very kind and made you feel like you were the only person in the room. I am grateful to President Wesselkamper and her contributions to Chaminade University and support for the women's volleyball program. She truly has impacted the lives of many through her compassion, sincerity, and kindness. May God continue to Bless you and your family. Aloha me ka mahalo nui loa. Me ke aloha pumehana, Dr. Wesselkamper.

Alfred Agcaoili 26 March, 2009

I am at a real lost of words... I am just reading about our President. My heart truly goes out to her family... and i hope Gods angels have surrounded them with pure comfort. Dr Sue spoke at my graduation this past December... as i sat in the audience and listen to her speak... i said to myself... "this woman is absolutely incredible... and i too will hope God will enstill in me the same energy and attitude that our President always displayed (courage... kindness... and inspiration)" ... You will certainly be missed Dr. Sue... May God Bless YOU and your FAMILY.

Some people make the world a better place and President Sue Wesselkamper was one of those people. She embraced Chaminade with all her energy and kindness, and Chaminade embraced her back. She made a difference and she will be missed.

Bro. Bernie’s Remarks at the Mass of the Resurrection for President Sue Wesselkamper on January 10, 2009. ________________________________________________________________________________ In offering a few words on behalf of the Chaminade University community, I would like to remember a single quality of President Sue. This is not for lack of material. In an early campus-wide evaluation, a respondent described her – with some reason – as being “As close as one can be to Joan of Arc without being dangerous.” One translation of Psalm 51, vs 18, has us pray “In God, in your love make Zion lovely.” I believe that Sue’s special grace was that in her love, we were made lovely. As we celebrate each Christmas season, God is with us in a special way through his Son, but the ordinary way is though one another. I believe Sue’s love was for us a participation in the divine creative love – it was healing, formative and empowering. It was a gift given to be shared a transformative love that engaged us and even compelled us to transform Chaminade on behalf of the students and communities we serve. We have been singularly blessed. I wish to express our thanks to Sue’s husband, Tom, her daughter, Suzanne, her son, David and all the members of her family who shared her with us and, who, inevitably were caught up in Chaminade. I also wish to offer my thanks to those who have come last evening and today and all the others who have expressed their respect and affection for Sue and their support for Chaminade. We are most appreciative of your continued friendship. On behalf of Tom, I would like to thank Mr. Terry Wood whose company fabricated the casket and Prof. Yukio Osaki who crafted the urn in which her ashes will be transported to New Rochelle for burial. And thanks to all whose efforts have made our celebration of these past two days so fitting a tribute to Sue – to Bishop Silva and Governor Lingle and all others too numerous to mention individually. May God bring to completion the good work that he has begun in us as he has done for his servant Sue.

Bro. Bernard J. Ploeger, S.M. 21 January, 2009

I was lost one day looking for a class and was met by a lady on a golf cart. Little did I know that President Sue helped me along the way. Her commitment to excellence in education, love and inspiration will never be forgotten. May God Bless you and your family.

Jessica Kepilino 21 January, 2009

President Sue, Thank you for all the support and dedication you have given Chaminade & its students. I, as well as those whom you've inspired, will live each day by the example you have taught us and the stewardship of loving & serving each other. God Bless You & Chaminade University.

James J. Faumuina 20 January, 2009

Through my work at St. Mary's University and attendance to MUM meetings in Hawaii and Dayton, I was privileged to meet President Sue. She impressed me as a true lady who radiated Faith and compassion. As I mourn the sudden and recent loss of my own husband, I share in the pain of her spouse Dr. Wesselkemper, and pray that through our Faith we may accept our loss and move on to a new day knowing that Sue and Mario are now our guardian angels.

Minita Santizo 20 January, 2009

In finding out about Pres. Sue’s passing I sat all night trying to find the words to share, but that’s just it there are none. Nothing I can say can properly express my gratitude for this amazing woman. Instead my actions and the actions of every person she touched will forever spread her spirit and passions. Heaven is now a better place with her and her fantastic smile in it. I love you Pres. Sue, so many people do.

Kate Nelson, c/o 2004 18 January, 2009

I am so very fortunate to have met Pres. Sue while I worked & attended school there. She was so full of warmth and love that she made you feel right at home. I remember how excited she would get during the orientation week, right before the start of a new semester. She was so excited to meet the new students and their families. She will be missed terribly. God Bless You, Pres. Sue.

Roblene Vallesteros 17 January, 2009

I am so sorry to hear of Sue W.'s passing. She was a great lady and a true supporter of her students. I was lucky enough during my short time at Chaminade to be involved in extra activities around campus and to have the joy and honor to work with this incredible gift. One of my favorite memories was being invited over for breakfast at her house and just interacting with her as if I was part of her family. She always treated people the way that she would treat not her closest friends, but as if you were her family. When my family in Florida was hit by Hurricane Ivan and I had no way of contacting them to even find out if they were okay, Dr. Sue stopped at nothing and was able to get me in contact with my family. She will always be a very special person to me and to the Chaminade community and will be missed greatly. My prayers and condolences go out to Tom and the rest of the family.

Elizabeth Sanders 17 January, 2009

Sue W. spoke at my year 2000 graduation at the Blaisedell hall. I just returned to Chaminade to finish my B.A. and am sad to hear of her passing. She was amazing. Heaven has another angel...

Liz Rizzo 16 January, 2009

I was lucky enough to meet and converse with President Sue Wesselkamper at least three times while I was on campus and once at her Christmas party. Before I met her, she was surely talked about in a positive light. Now, after she passed, she is still a bright light in my mind and others. My experiences were very comforting and positive with her. She was really pleasant to be around. I will miss her and my condolences go out to Tom Wesselkamper and family. God Bless Sue...

Richard Pafundi 16 January, 2009

As someone who got to know Sue while I worked at St. Mary's in San Antonio I know this is a great loss. Her enthusiasm and care for Chaminade and the students will be sadly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone at Chaminade.

Karen Johnson 15 January, 2009

As a former student and now part time teacher here I always felt proud that Dr. Sue was our President. I always looked forward to reading about her next project in the newsletters! Your vision and accomplishments are so evident when you walk the campus. I want to thank you Dr. Sue for your dedication and love of CUH - you will never be forgotten. M. Duffy

Maureen Duffy 15 January, 2009

President Sue is known as Saint Sue in my family. Before she took her trip to Lourdes in 2008 she graciously offered to take any prayer intentions any of us might have with her. I was thrilled to request healing for my mother, then in chemotherapy for a rare form of cancer, and my brother-in-law, who had recently suffered a heart attack. Not content to concentrate on her own illness and intentions for healing, President Sue left Hawaii with a binder full of prayer requests. During her time in Lourdes, my mother’s lab results confirmed complete remission of cancer. My brother-in-law has also recovered fully from his heart attack. We cannot thank Saint Sue enough for the generosity of spirit she demonstrated by her willingness to support others in need in the face of her own grave illness. She has touched the lives of many in countless ways, because she was always motivated by love. Mahalo, President Sue.

Karen Harp 14 January, 2009

Sue, you were truly a gift from God. You shared with us a great understanding of passion, and love for all things in life. You will definitely be missed by all, and your name will live forever in Chaminade.

Cedric Panganiban, Rachel San Agustin 14 January, 2009

There are only two words I can think of and it is Thank You to President Sue. She has done so much to make our experience at Chaminade not only memorable, but the best 4 years of our lives. In the times that I've talked with her, I can tell that she genuinely listened and heard what the students' needs were. She cared and I was never afraid to voice my opinions with her because I knew she would do whatever she can to make positive changes. Her energy, her strong-will, her kindness, and her devotion is what I will always remember. She truly was and is the angel that Chaminade is blessed with. My condolences go out to her family and I will continue to keep them in my prayers.

Michelle Amado, C/O 2005 14 January, 2009

Thank you for being a president that us students could always brag about. I always knew that you loved this university as much as myself. Thank you for your love and support of the arts. It was a joy to see you at every Chaminade Theatre production.

Blaze Mancillas 13 January, 2009

As a former coach at Chaminade before and after her arrival I saw first hand the impact President Sue had on campus morale, school financial standing, and the Chaminade family's positive belief in the future of the school. How could one not believe when Sue spoke about the importance of the school to the community. She was a giant in her accomplishments here in Hawaii at Chaminade, on the YWCA Board and her other activities. Aloha Sue from Coach John and all the Chaminade Water Polo Alumni.

John Nielsen 13 January, 2009

President Sue was an inspiration to Chaminade she was never to busy to say hi and give her trademark sweet, genuine smile. If ever there was an angel on this Earth it was President Sue. I had the opportunity several times to have dinner and brunch at the Wesselkamper's home where we were always treated like some of the family these will be my favorite memories. My condolences to her family.

Angelique Showman 13 January, 2009

God bless you and your family and thank you for being that breath of fresh air that makes a college experience one to never forget. you will be missed however, you set Chaminade on a path to success.

Kevin Littlejohn 12 January, 2009

President Sue is a very sweet lady who's gone and left with us a lot of memories of her wonderful manner with everyone she met. I always remember her big smile at anytime I see her on campus. She's very friendly and truly an inspiration who helped Chaminade become what it is today. May God be with her and welcome her soul into his kingdom. My heartfelt condolences to Tom and the children. Be strong and have faith in God! She's in a much better place now. I will forever keep her in my heart. Ia manuia lau malaga, Pres. Sue!

What a tremendous spirit and force, we will always keep her good work and good caring alive in the fleshy tablets of our hearts. Fa'afetai, Fa'afetai Tele Lava. Ia Manuia lou Malaga President Sue.

There are too many memories of her wonderful and gracious manner with each person she met, including me, for me to cite only one instance. Also, so many have already noted how cheerful she was with her smile. She maintained that smile through the worst of times in her illness. A wink, a smile, a light kiss - all showed how much she cared for each individual as one of God's beloved child. To Tom, the children and grandchildren, and to her closest friends and co-workers: may the consolation which only God can provide be found in the many people whose lives she touched.

Regina Pfeiffer 12 January, 2009

May god welcome her into his kingdom with open arms. She was truly an inspiration and a tremendous person who often lead by example and helped shape Chaminade what it is today. Aloha oe. Until we meet again.

Jonathan Nery 12 January, 2009

In the few years I have been able to spend as a student at Chaminade with Sue as our President, I have never seen her unhappy, uninvolved, or unenthusiastic. She was a friend to all, everywhere she went. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone she has touched at Chaminade as well as in the rest of the world.

Brian Nakagawa 11 January, 2009

President Sue always carried a huge smile on her face regardless of the time or day. She gave me the most meaningful lei after performing a joseph and mary skit. May she rest in peace and keep on smiling from the heavens.

Christopher Barriere 11 January, 2009

President Sue has done so much for Chaminade and I am not sure I am able to thank her enough. As a new student to Chaminade, I was not able to meet her. I really wish I had the honor. Thank You so much for your brilliant performance.

Gwen Geronimo 11 January, 2009

President Sue will always live in my thoughts of Chaminade University. Though she as extremely ill she managed to attend the December graduation in which culminated my time at Chaminade. Until her very end she as supportive of the University and more importantly to her students. I can only hope that through her example I too can live to help others in the same way as she has helped the whole of Chaminade. My thoughts and prayers go out to all who mourn her loss especially her devoted husband. "Eternal rest grant unto her of Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. Through the mercy of God may she always rest in peace."

Joseph Myers 11 January, 2009

As a current new student of Chaminade University, I have not had the privilege to meet President Sue, but my condolences and prayers go out to the family, friends, and staff that new her so well. God Bless!

Nadine Sylva 10 January, 2009

Oh, that smile!! The last time I saw Sue was the Sunday before Christmas, at a concert in the Mystical Rose chapel. I knew I was saying goodbye. "Are you huggable or not?" I asked. She smiled and shook her head-- then asked, "But how about this?" She slowly pulled herself to her feet, put her arms around me to either side, hugging the air just an inch from my body, and kissed the air next to my cheek. This is a person who honored life to the very end, and chose to be among us as long as she possibly could. The love and courage she radiated remains with us. The transformations she brought about are evident in so many of the comments above, and those who participate in such transformations fuse with those who are transformed. She lives on in them. Now she too has been transformed. What a delight God must find her company. I hope she has a red robe, at least for Fridays.

Holly Henderson 10 January, 2009

When you were a baby, people were laughing while you were crying...now that you've past on, people are crying while you are smiling. Thank you for your continuous support and for making Chaminade a comfortable environment to learn in. A simple hello or your beautiful smile usually brightened the day of many because it certainly brightened ours. You gave love and support everywhere you travelled, which is why you will always be remembered. We pray that the future president of Chaminade University will show the same affection you have showed the Chaminade ohana. We do not mourn your death, but we do celebrate your eternal life with our Lord and Savior. Much love....ALWAYS!!!

The Shergills 10 January, 2009

I first met President Sue when she went to my High School, the Academy of The Pacific, in 2004. To offer me a scholarship to Chaminade University. I accepted even though I didn't know who she was at first. I couldn't thank her enough for all that she did for me to attend a wonderful school at home. She was a friendly person with a wonderful smile. She did everything to ensure Chaminade was a better place for everyone involved in the university, whether it was for students, faculty, staff, or even alumni. Thank you Dr. Sue so much for being a big part of my life and to convince me to continue my education right here @ home & for everything you did for the University ohana. You will be missed & I will continue my education to honor you and to be the best that i can be. You will be impossible to replace. But you made everything @ Chaminade possible. Aloha. God bless you.

Daniel Lee Soon C/O '08 10 January, 2009

President Sue thank you so much for all you have done. Your love, light, and dreams will continue to shine. Your memory, I know, will be forever imprinted in all the hearts you've touched and the community you've served. I am honored, so deeply honored, to have had you in my life. Thank you for sharing your love the way you did. Thank you for reminding me how great it is to inspire others through the actions of our hearts. Know always, that I will do my personal best to honor your spirit of aloha and the beautiful legacy you left by following what you've done - and that's to love others wholeheartedly without counting the costs.

Jeannie Pinpin c/o '05 & '07 10 January, 2009

In 1999, at age 18, and in semester two of my freshman year at Chaminade, a woman in a red blazer stood above me as I opened my eyes, in bed at Queen’s Hospital. I had no idea who this person was until my grandmother told me that she was the president of my university. “She’s here to see you,” grandma said. I had been in a severely bad car crash and President Sue had come to visit me. When she was standing next to my bed I could feel the warmth and concern she had for me. She held my hand and said that if I needed anything to let her know. I’ll never forget that moment I met her for the first time. During my four years at Chaminade, I came to know President Sue as just Sue. She was down to earth and always willing to sit and talk for a moment. She could make you feel that nothing else mattered, and that her focus was just on you. While at Chaminade, I found myself doing work-study at Sue and Tom’s house. They always made me feel part of the family. After dinners, I would clean and talk with them about the campus and academic life. At that time, I met their brand new grandson Samson and their son David. Four years later, as I walked on stage to receive my bachelor’s degree from Sue in December 2002. Sue stopped me on stage for a moment and looked me straight in the eye with a big smile and said, “I am so proud of you,” and then hugged me. We both understood what she meant. Sue will always be in all our hearts and I am truly honored and appreciative to have met such an inspirational and passionate woman who deeply cared and invested into Chaminade and its mission. You have done wonderful things in this world and I am sure you are working on “Transformations” even up there. God bless you Sue! And may the Lord hover over your family as you did to Chaminade University.

Michael "Pika" Ahakuelo '02 10 January, 2009

We will dearly miss Sue. She was so warm and personable, just Sue seems appropriate. Yet, she was also so dignified that maybe President Sue is more apt. She treated us as special individuals each and every time we met. Good by and God Bless, Sue.

Patric & Pauline Baumgartner 10 January, 2009

Words cannot readily express the impact she made to not only Chaminade, but to each and every person she came in contact with. But suffice to say when people recently have found out that I work for Chaminade, their first words have been about feeling sorry for the loss of Sue. That is the kind of impact that she has made. Personally, I recall during one time in my life when things were not working out, that it was she, already well within the travails of what she was going through with her own sickness, who took the time to comfort me. I was deeply touched and will never forget that. They say the truest measure of a person is how they deal with adversity, and it is this, above all her many successes, that sticks with me the most. She faced her fate with such courage and dignity. She will be missed, dearly missed. Mary Ann and I pray that she rests in ever loving peace, and that her family is comforted during this difficult time.

I am looking up at a hand written note of good wishes from Sue that is on my office bulletin board and feel that it graces this little space and recalls to mind the blessing I still feel from having met this very grand woman.

Aloha from the San Francisco Bay Area! Since moving to SF 8 years ago, I've made it back to Hawaii every 2-3 years. The Wesselkampers were among the people I always looked forward to seeing whenever I went back to CUH. It hurts to know that Sue will not be there when I go back to Hawaii later this year but I am confident and grateful that she is in peace. Thanks, Sue, for 13 tremendous years!

Montira Warran 10 January, 2009

This, indeed, is very sad news. She was a wonderful/ God-sent gift to the Chaminade family. As I watched the university grow under her carefilled watch and professional determination, I grew even more proud of "the school that gave me a chance." Without the likes of Dr. Sue, many would never realize the value of higher education. She is missed! May she rest in God's peace. My best wishes and prayers to her Chaminade family, her own family and the friends of the university.

Dr. Robert C. Allanach BGS '76 10 January, 2009

President Sue always put a smile on my face. The energy and aloha she gave her students was apparent as soon as you saw her. Mahalo for all your hard work and dedication. You will be missed...Aloha

Steven Morrow 10 January, 2009

Sue, you will be missed by us here on Guam. Your visits to Guam over the years have significantly place Chaminade University on the Map on an island, "Where America's Day Begins." Your smile will always be remembered by our graduates, families and friends. Chaminade University rose to new heights because of you. I am proud to be a graduate from CU, Class of 1987.

Thomas Shieh, MD, FACOG 10 January, 2009

During her first few days as President, President Sue came to NAS Barbers Point with Skip Lee to visit one of the Chaminade sites. I remember Skip interrupting my history class to introduce "our new President, Sue Wesselkamper." She was genuinely interested in what the University was doing and in where our work was being done. I remember reflecting after class that, "Chaminade seems to be in good, capable, concerned hands. This bodes well for our future!"

Willis H A Moore 9 January, 2009

Sue Wesselkamper and I met at a golf tournament. The luck of the draw put us into the same group of 4. None of us had much of an idea of this game. It very much showed at the first tee. Yet we played and I watched Sue. She did her very best. That morning I learned how to spell d-e-t-e-r-m-i-n-a-t-i-o-n. It spells: S-U-E W-E-S-S-E-L-K-A-M-P-E-R Against all odds President Sue finished her round of golf and everybody clapped: Bravo, well done! She bowed and smiled (yes, that understated, kind smile). Soon thereafter, President Sue asked me to join the Board of Governors of Chaminade University (sure, I too got the personal Sue-Campus-Tour including the pit with the forensic pig). For a dozen years I had the privilege to experience the total transformation of Chaminade, which was accomplished by sheer d-e-t-e-r-m-i-n-a-t-i-o-n of my golfing partner President Sue Wesselkamper: Bravo, well done! You did your very best! You left us much, much more than you ever took. Mahalo and Warm Aloha, J. Hans Strasser

Erin Keelan 9 January, 2009

I will never forget my first day at Chaminade and meeting a high spirited and energetic person, who took a University on the brink of closure, and made it into one of the best places to recieve an education. President Sue made Chaminade my second home and she was like my second mother. What other University can you say, has a President that would take the time to know you, as a person and would invite you to her home for brunch or dinner. Even in her final days she kept that spirit and energy for life and for others. My only regret is that when i graduate in May, she will not be handing me my degree...but she will be there in my heart and because of who she is and what she has done in her life, gives me the determination to strive to greatness in all that i do. Mahalo President Sue for all that you have done for so many that have hade the opportunity to know you.

What beautiful rememberances of such a dedicated woman and her proufound, life-changing influence on so many individuals. Her legacy will surely live on as we continue to be the beneficaries of the foundation she has layed through her selfless service to this community.

The Pardi Family 9 January, 2009

President Sue was genuine and truly cared about others. She was always supportive of all the student learners of Chaminade, including the very young. She always joked that Chaminade had the youngest learners and she was right. The children at Chaminade's preschool welcomed her and enjoyed her visits. She had an infectious smile that brightened the faces of the children and those around her. Thank you for supporting the little ones. We will miss you.

It was a blessing that President Sue and Tom came to our islands. They have been inspirational to me and always took time to be interested in my journey with my family and the sharing of theirs. So many riches have been brought to us through their grace. Sue will be missed, but I will carry her memory in my heart. Aloha Sue.

President Sue I owe you and Chaminade University so much that I cant help, but to keep returning and give back in any way I can. I can remember seeing you sometimes either early in the morning arriving for work, or leaving in the evening you always had time to stop and see how I was doing as an individual. That meant alot to a 42 year old returning student pursuing a B.A. Degree, that you treated me like any other student who attended Chaminade University. My final memory of you is the most hard to deal with, and that is the picture of you and I as I finally walked across the Neal Blaisdale arena stage to shake your hand and recieve my degree. I'll never forget you President Sue! THANK YOU! Chuck Russell c/o 2007 Lumana'i O Samoa

Sue, I remember most your smile, your warmth, your deflection of credit for your many accomplishments, and the time you took out of your crazy schedule to read with students from Palolo School. Thank you for making the world a better place. There is no question that you were an instrument of The Lord's peace. We miss you.

President Sue I will never forget what you and Mr. Tom have done for me throughout the 5 wonderful years I spent at Chaminade...I met you in my freshman year and for the years to follow you and your family have accepted me as one of your own family members and thus made my stay in the islands like at home...I will never forget the wonderful get together events we organized at your house for our Chaminade and Hawai'i ohana...In my mind you are a reflection of a person who was born to lead others, and also of a person who's personal warmth made everyone feel important...Thank you for all these great life lessons President Sue...You will never be forgotten and your brightest star will always shine and be there to lead is in the future...Not a single day passes without me thinking how lucky and blessed I was to have met you and Mr. Tom in Hawai'i...Rest in peace President Sue and thank you for making a difference in my life!!!

I always looked forward to seeing her Red outfits and big smile around Freitas courtyard. I will never forget the time my brother, Letasi, and mom had dinner at her place. She kept teasing me about the fact that I didn't like to eat goldfish. I also remember that whenever she saw me, she would give me a hug and ask about my family. Honestly, I don't think I know of any President of any University who cared about her students so much! I'm just glad that she's in a better place, and probably smiling at us crying about her leaving. She was not loved, she IS loved. Miss you much President Sue! The Tanoi family offer their deepest condolences to President Sue's family and friends! Love you always!!!

Leifiloa Carol Tanoi 9 January, 2009

I thank God for giving us the opportunity to get to know President Sue on a personal and professional level. I feel like I am very fortunate to have known this amazing woman for the duration of my education at Chaminade University. We love and miss you President Sue.

Angela Mendiola 9 January, 2009

President Sue invited all of the Dayton and St. Mary's students over her house for lunch. Even though it was apparent she was in discomfort she still took the time to have lunch and talk to all the students. I think instead of her learning about us, we all learned from her. Thank You President Sue!

President Sue was an amazing woman of God filled with the Marianist spirit! Personally, we will miss her presence at Sunday morning masses in the Mystical Rose Oratory. She faithfully attended Mass to the very end. Professionally, we will miss the way she treated every person regardless of position (faculty, staff, student, visitor) as if they belonged and were a part of the Chaminade 'ohana. She was a kind and gentle woman who sought and implemented solutions, which led Chaminade University of Honolulu to become the "College of Distinction" that it is today. Our prayers are with her family, friends, and our Chaminade 'ohana. May we celebrate the memory of Pres. Sue by continuing what she was working on, and by bringing out the best in each and every person!

Soane & Margaret Uiagalelei 9 January, 2009

I didn't know Pres. Sue very well but the few times that I have meet her I remember someone that was very nice and always had a smile on her face, I will miss her as I'm sure that everyone else who knew her will also.

Heather Golding 9 January, 2009

The first time I met Sue was at her home before a Hogan Christmas dinner. Her home was decorated so beautifully and the aroma of the delicious food filled the air. I was so amazed at how someone could open her home (and her life) to us students. Sue was so dedicated to Chaminade and its students that her job often followed her home (literally). I’ll always remember how she greeted everyone with a smile that spanned from ear to ear and an outreached hand. She will be truly missed!

Candace Alcantara 9 January, 2009

Sue was the most amazing lady I have ever met! When she first arrived there was a lunch for her to get to know Honolulu people. I went to the lunch saying to myself - I will not take on another volunteer job. It was only a matter of minutes and she had me convinced to help Chaminade! Her enthusiasm was contagious! She loved hiking & the outdoors and we shared many stories. I shall truly miss her. Blessing to the family. Jeannie

President Sue became our President 13 years ago. This was my first year in college, and in Hawaii. I left Chaminade and returned two years ago, I am close to completing my Bachelor degree, while working full time and raising a family. I even have aspirations of continuing my education at Chaminade. I feel that I owe a large part of my success to President Sue, her guidance and tireless effort to improve Chaminad University has made it possible for nontraditional students to receive an education. Thank You Sue, I will always dedicate my degree to you.

Pres. Sue was a wonderful person. Her generousity was legendary. She inspired so many of us each and everyday with her selflessness and kindness. Always with a ready smile, she taught me so much about grace and dignity. I treasure all my memories of her. I will miss you Pres. Sue.

Venus Ituralde 9 January, 2009

I first met President Sue my freshman year of college when she offered to give me a ride up the Chaminade hill. I was surprised that such an important person would take time out of a very busy schedule just to make my day a little easier. It just showed what a kind and humble person President Sue was...She will be missed by the entire student body.

Melanie Legdesog 9 January, 2009

I was blessed to know Sue for almost 14 years and to work closely with her as a member of the Board of Regents and ultimately as chairperson. She was our angel, totally dedicated to the students, to the mission of the university and to the goals of Blessed William Joseph Chaminade. She was a dear friend to all and offered us an example of how to live the principles taught to us by Jesus--how to love our fellow children of God with a selfless, generous spirit. Thank you, Sue. Please pray for our continuing success in your memory. We love you.

Gary Liebl, Chair Emeritus 9 January, 2009

Although I did not get to know her on a personal level, she still had an influence on my life. If I was having a bad day, I could count on her smile to brighten it up. She had a smile that could brighten the darkest room. You made a difference in my life, although you may not know it. And for that I will forever be thankful. Thank you Sue.

Hafa Adai from the island of Saipan (CNMI)! I am an on-line student and never had the opportunity to visit the school campus, nor have I ever met Dr. Sue. But I would like to send my condolence to the school and most especially the family of our dearly beloved. I share your loss and may you continue to carry on the spirit that Dr. Sue had left. I got to work with the most amazingly inspirational leader, mentor and friend one could ever imagine. Pres. Sue was without an ego, never spent a second on self-pity and was so successful establishing a rapport with those around her because it all came from the heart. Hers was a truly indomitable spirit. The last smile I got from her on her last evening with us was a gift I will treasure forever. Aloha, Sue...
